About the Book
Over 600 pages in this three-book omnibus.
Murder, intrigue, and an armchair sleuth. Eliza Thomson Investigates…
1) Death by the Sea
A well-kept secret, a bathing machine and a dead body
July 1905: A family holiday to the seaside, at Brighton’s most prestigious hotel, promises to be a grand affair. And bumping into an old friend adds to the excitement.
But when a body is discovered in one of the beach’s bathing machines, all plans are put on hold. Eliza needs to know what happened.
Despite the police insisting the death was accidental, Eliza is convinced it’s more sinister, but when she suggests it was murder, they refuse to listen. Until they have no choice…
As the police struggle to find a motive for the death, the investigation appears to be going nowhere. But when they make Eliza and Archie their prime suspects, Eliza takes things into her own hands.
Determined to clear their names, Eliza and Connie search for answers, only to discover a dreadful secret … and someone desperate for revenge.
2) Murder at the Marquee
The summer village fete, a newly erected marquee and a missing tent peg
August 1905: Recently home from their trip to Brighton, Eliza and Connie are deep in preparation for the local village fete. Half the villagers are involved too, and once the marquee is assembled, it soon fills up with eager stall holders.
With the competition prizes awarded, the afternoon is almost at an end, but everything stops when a body is found hidden amongst the debris. Dead!
With more visitors to the village than usual, and a victim with more enemies than friends, the list of murder suspects is long. But a chance meeting in the local pub may narrow the field.
Eliza and Connie are keen to help the police with their enquiries, but when Inspector Adams arrives from New Scotland Yard, he clearly has something else on his mind. Can Eliza use her diplomatic skills to make sure the killer is found while keeping the peace at the police station?
3) The Calling Card Murders
A prestigious department store, a fatal stabbing, and four calling cards.
September 1905: In need of an outfit for Connie’s special day, Eliza treats them to a day’s shopping at her favourite London store. After a successful morning, tragedy strikes.
Connie is knocked to the ground as two men push past them, but there is no help at hand. Feet away, a man lies dying, a knife protruding from his side.
With no witnesses, and the identity of the victim a mystery, the only clue is the four calling cards found in the man’s jacket pocket. Can they shed any light on who he is? And why anyone would want him dead?
Once Inspector Adams is assigned to the case, he instructs Eliza to return to Moreton and leave the investigation to him. But when a second body is found in the village, Eliza refuses to do nothing.
With Connie’s big day approaching, time is of the essence. Can Eliza help the police find the killer before they strike again?
