Historical Fiction Author

I didn’t ever envisage being an author, and certainly not of historical fiction. As I researched my Family History, however, there was something about the unfolding story that compelled me to put fingers to keyboard. Initially, I wrote for my own benefit, but after much deliberation, I decided the story needed to be told.

That was back in 2010/11. At the time, I didn’t expect the story to amount to more than about one hundred pages, but as time went on, and more family secrets were revealed, the page count continued to rise.

In 2018, the fifth and final part of what has now become The Ambition & Destiny Series was published. It is a family saga set predominantly in and around the Birmingham area of the UK, although Part 5 moves to Liverpool. It follows the fortunes of three generations of my ancestors and spans seventy years between 1839 and 1910. All books are available on Amazon.

Outside of writing I am a scientist by training and have worked in the pharmaceutical industry for many years. I was born and raised in Liverpool but now live in Cheshire with my husband, youngest daughter and cat. In addition to Family History, my interests include rock music and Liverpool Football Club.

Although inspired by the information I uncovered, The Ambition & Destiny Series is very much a work of fiction.

  1. Hi
It’s good to hear from you, what a sad tale for your great-grandma. Something like that is hard nowadays, it must have been awful in 1888.
    Good luck with your research.

  2. I read your section on Victorian bankruptcy and it is clear and helpful. I have been researching family history to find out about my grandma’s biological father. My great-grandma was raped in 1888, but told my father enough details about the man that we can identify him online. He was from Warwickshire and my grandma was born in Birmingham.
Thank you for the explanation of how the law worked.
