A Time of Turmoil

The 17th Century was a period of major change in England, particularly during the 1640s when the country was plunged into civil war.

Through my family history research, I’ve learnt that I had numerous ancestors who lived in the City of London in the 16th and 17th centuries, including at the time of the war. Over the next few years I’d like to bring their story to life in the form of another family saga.

The saga will span the years 1641-1661, and will detail the lives of three branches of the same family, each with different outlooks to the impending war. The books won’t focus on the war itself. Instead, I’ll explore the individual and family responses to the situation and how the family dynamics were changed.

Over time, the pages of this website will share the background information relevant to the storyline as well as of the lives and livelihoods of the main characters involved.
